E-MUN

ALSA E-Comp MUN is an authentic simulation of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly and multilateral agencies, whether they are in the structure of the United Nations or regional bodies such as the European Union, the African Union, or ASEAN. Each delegate will represent one country of the UN member to defend the interests of that country and also to contribute in formulating solutions known as resolutions for international issues. The issues brought up in ALSA E-Comp MUN are actual and current international and national issues, where the participants have to give the solutions for them together working with other countries and delegates. There will be the council of United Nations Women (UNW) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the senior high school students. As for the varsity students, there will be the council of Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) and Legal Committee (LC). There will also be the council of United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and United Nations Security Council (UNSC) available for both senior high school students and varsity. The objectives of this competition are to sharpen the ability to speak and put forward arguments, develop diplomacy skills, improve the participants’ confidence to argue, negotiate, convey thoughts and aspirations to the public and also to enrich knowledge on international issues as well as to give an illustration on how the UN works. This competition is an individual competition. Each senior high school and varsity may send a delegation to be divided in 4 (three) councils.

Debate

English Debate is a competition where two teams will deliver their arguments regarding the motion assigned using English. The motions on Preliminary Rounds and Elimination Rounds will raise the theme of various issues such as social politics, law, culture and environment. The Asian Parliamentary System will administer the competition with the total of 100 teams (both senior high school and varsity) representing various institutions nationwide. The purpose of this debate competition is to develop critical and analytical thoughts through arguments on various issues and deliver them in a logical manner with English as the medium. In addition, this competition also aims to grow not only the confidence of the participants in giving their opinions in front of the public with systematic and correct linguistic, but also to raise the spirit to compete supportively. Each senior high school and university is allowed to send the maximum of 3 (three) teams, with the third team being put on the waiting list.

Eugenia Leonetta - UI, Chief Adjudicator


Eugenia Leonetta is a second-year undergraduate student studying law in Universitas Indonesia. When she's not busy stressing over her studies, she's beyond passionate in women's rights and mental illness awareness. ALSA E-COMP 2019 is her first classic acore-ing gig and hopefully many more to come.

Tengku Omar Azfar Haqqani – Unpad, Deputy Chief Adjudicator


Omar bloomed quite late as his biggest debating and adjudicating achievements are all courtesy of his post-varsity life. He is now a full time employer but he always gives his best when it comes to debating profileration. ALSA E-COMP is his second classic Acore-ing gig, and he will stick around for more!

Ahmad Kushay – ITB, Deputy Chief Adjudicator


Kushay is someone passionate in discussions about various social issues that are oriented to concrete policy recommendations. Being a chemistry student, however, doesn't accommodate that passion and so he became active in the debating community as an approximation to that instead.

Naufal Daffaveda Adam – UI, Deputy Chief Adjudicator


Dadam has a keen interest in both global business and environmental issues. Being an active debater is his way of learning and engaging to variety of issues that he wouldn't get had he only stick to his monotonous accounting classes only.

Derril Pramana Tungka – UI, Deputy Chief Adjudicator


Derril Pramana Tungka is a third year undergrad economics student in Universitas Indonesia. He's very passionate in his studies of economics, particularly in International Economics and Trade. Outside of that, he's also been applying his studies and seeking much more knowledge in debating. Having debated and judged in multiple national and international tournaments, he hopes that his participation in ALSA E-COMP 2019 would be a positive contribution to a great competition and to the Indonesian debating community at large.

Sry Handini Puteri is an alumna of Universitas Gadjah Mada, majoring in Cartography and Remote Sensing. She’s an enthusiast in disaster mitigation and passionate in people and education. It was an honor to serve in ALSA E-COMP 2019.

Battle of Brains is a competition where each team, consisting of 3 (three) people, will be competing in answering questions about general knowledge within the scope of national and international social, political, law, environmental and cultural issues. The objective of this competition is to challenge the participants to sharpen their English skills and their knowledge of national and global issues, as well as amplify the use of common sense.

Newscasting

Newscasting is a competition where the participants will simulate delivering news as professional anchors on television. This competition has 3 (three) rounds with different content on each round (News and Weather Forecast in Preliminary Round, Live Report in Semi-final Round and Talk Show in Final Round). Maximum duration of each participant’s performance is 7 (seven) minutes for Preliminary Round, 5 (five) minutes for Semi-final Round and 15 (fifteen) minutes for the Final round (including opening and closing sentence). The objectives of this competition are to develop the participants’ English skills and to explore their interests in becoming professional news anchors.

Paper Presentation

Paper presentation is an individual competition where each participant is required to create a paper (essay) in English about a given theme and show it with a presentation ( PowerPoint) in front of the judges. The presentation must be interesting, creative and deliver the participants’ ideas within the time limit that have been previously written in the paper. The purposes of this competition are to enhance participants’ ability to create papers in English, as well to develop the participants’ ability and creativity to make and deliver their presentations and to build the confidence and courage to deliver ideas to the public.

Speech

Speech competition is an individual competition where the participants deliver their own typed speech, based on chosen themes given by the committee. The judging aspects will be mount to speech substance, grammar, pronunciation, time management and delivery of the speech itself. The purposes of this competition are to provide an opportunity for participants to improve their public speaking skill and also to form a competitive atmosphere for all participants, also for the participants to research their chosen themes in depth to create understanding upon the particular subject.

Spelling Bee

Spelling Bee is a competition of spelling words in English, fast and precisely. In this competition, participants must quickly spell English words spoken by the pronouncer. The words will be derived from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. The participant who is able to spell the most words correctly in the shortest time will be the winner. The purposes of this competition are to train the attentiveness in listening to the words and accuracy in spelling the words, enrich vocabularies and enhance their ability in writing and pronouncing English words of the participants.

Storytelling

Storytelling is a competition where the participants will be telling a story in English in their creative style. Participants are given 10 (ten) minutes for their performances. Participants are allowed to use costumes, pictures, visual aids and any supportive materials to make their stories more interesting. The scoring criteria of the competition are Matter (grammar, vocabulary, story substances and pronunciation) and Performance (interaction, intonation and punctuality of time). The purposes of this competition are to build the confidence for public speaking, improve the ability in telling stories in English and encourage the participants to be creative in engaging people or audiences.
